FESTIVAL VOLUNTEERING FOR ANTISLAVERY INTERNATIONAL
Workers Beer Company runs the beer bars and tents on all sorts of festivals. Organisations like Anti-Slavery International can send volunteers to pour and serve drinks in WBC bars, the Company then donates £6.50 to the parent organisation for every hour that their volunteers contribute. It’s a fun way for activists to make money for their organisation’s work.
The volunteers don’t get paid, but they do get free entry to the festival, a couple of drinks when their shift is over, and when they are not working they can enjoy the music and the atmosphere of the festival. Where the event runs over a number of days the Company will provide a secure campsite with toilets, showers and a subsidised canteen and bar.
You are expected to work one six hour shift (shifts are usually 6 hours long but sometimes can be up to 8 hours long, sometimes can be only 5 hours) a day. Free transport from London is provided, coaches leave the night before the start of your work and come back on Monday morning. You have to take your own tent, sleeping bag etc.
You’re welcome to take someone with you (partner, friend), but they would obviously have to work as well - that’s providing we’ve got some free places left.
IMPORTANT!!!
If you decide to go please make absolutely sure you can go: check your diary, book your holidays in advance etc.
For 2009 both Reading and Leeds festivals are from Friday (28 August) to Sunday (30 August). You will be expected to show up a night before (Thursday) and leave on Monday morning.
It’s crucial for our volunteers to show up: if you don’t show up to any of the shifts we will get charged the full festival ticket price and won’t get any places for future events.
To keep our organisation on the safe side, we have to take a £50 deposit from all volunteers before the festival. We will refund the money after we get a confirmation from WBC that all our volunteers worked all the shifts.
