Call on the Uk government to end domestic slavery

Take action now!

Please write to the Business Secretary, Vince Cable MP, calling on the Government to support the adoption of an International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention on domestic work to protect domestic workers in the UK and around the world from abuse, exploitation and slavery.

At the recent International Labour Conference (ILC) in Geneva, ILO member states, including governments, met for the very first time to discuss the Convention. Although the UK voted against having recommended actions only for governments (thus not obstructing the negotiations for a full Convention that would require states to take action to protect domestic workers) its suport for a full Convention is still hesitant.

We will have to wait until the 2011 ILC for the final vote as to whether a full domestic work Convention will be adopted but please continue to urge the Government to vote in favour of it and take the lead in the negotiations to ensure domestic workers everywhere do not have to suffer.
